Dropping Grease?
Hi All,
Matilda is on her second day mobile, after the engine swap for the psycho'd up 1293cc.
I've noticed that she has dropped a couple of blobs of thick grey grease type stuff on the floor whilst parked.
This would indicate Moly grease, from the inner CV joints, as they obviously have been out of the gearbox, and squeezed about etc.
The missus has just taken it round to the local tyre & exhaust place, to get the 2" etc exhaust sorted (just needed a warm up and a bend in the right place), and they are saying it looks nasty... and it is a diff problem.. eh??
Surely if it was diff, it would be engine oil, not thick grey grease?
New seals were fitted in all the orifices that were likely to leak before the engine was dropped in (not that they will probably help much!).
I'm inclined to think it's more than likely grease from the OS inner CV joint... sounds like a gaiter has probably given up the ghost. According to the missus, the whole of the OS of the "gearbox" is coated with the stuff, which is consistent with a rotating part spraying it about.
There are no "unusual" noises coming from the gearbox or engine, but the usual "whine" is a bit pronounced.... although I'm told not to worry, as it could be the transfer gears... apparently on the 1275GT they were coarse cut and known for noise.....
Anybody any thoughts on the above? as I'm at work, and dont want to start ruining my afternoon by worrying, when it could be as simple as a CV gaiter!
